Waste Management - More Information

NFS has been responsible for the management of radioactive waste shipments from one of the world's largest nuclear clean-up projects for nearly a decade. At the Department of Energy's (DOE) Fernald Environmental Management Project (FEMP), NFS has shipped about one million tons of waste to the Nevada Test Site and has saved taxpayers millions of dollars by shipping it ahead of schedule and under budget.

NFS can provide experienced personnel for the packaging and shipment of radioactive wastes. NFS has developed proprietary technologies to reduce waste volumes, optimize loading of waste containers (without exceeding regulatory limits) and produce necessary documentation for government regulators.

In fact, NFS is today offering new alternatives to burying or storing surplus or orphan nuclear materials. These alternatives can recycle valuable uranium from the materials into useful fuel. For more information on nuclear material recycling, click here.
