NFS is committed to protecting its employees, the public and the environment by limiting potential industrial, chemical or radiological exposure.
About 20 percent of NFS employees are engaged in jobs related to industrial, chemical, radiological, employee and environmental safety. We also employ independent laboratories to assess environmental samples of water taken from areas in and around the Erwin plant to assure accurate analysis for the safety to the public and the environment.
Two U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Resident Inspectors are on site to consistently review and report plant operations, including safety and procedural compliance to Federal regulations on a continuous basis. NFS has also recently chartered a Nuclear Safety Review Board (NSRB), comprised of long-term industry experts. The NSRB is charged with advising NFS Senior Management on opportunities and methods to improve the strength of NFS’ safety culture, and programs that have a material effect on safe operations. They will visit NFS on a regular basis to conduct reviews.
