Activation of Emergency Plan in Response to Extended Power Outage at Toronto Facility, 1025 Lansdowne Ave.

08 August 2018

On Wednesday, August 8, 2018 BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada activated its emergency plan to respond to an extended power outage that impacted much of the neighbourhood where the plant is located.

Over the course of the rainstorm event BWXT personnel managed surface water entering the basement of the building. Water was contained to the interior of the building and is being collected and processed in accordance with normal water treatment procedures.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., a sprinkler alarm was triggered associated with restoration of power resulting in the Toronto Fire Services briefly attending the site. There was no fire and the alarm had resulted from changes in system pressure. Water was contained to the interior of the building and is being collected and processed in accordance with normal water treatment procedures.

There was no health or safety risk posed to the public or employees. Power has been restored to the area and the plant has returned to normal operations.
