Director of Operations

Michael W. McKinnon has more than 36 years of leadership and management experience in nuclear facility plant maintenance and operations. 

In addition to serving as the director of Operations, Mr. McKinnon has held numerous positions at NFS including director of Contract Services, Manufacturing Operations section manager, and director of Strategy, Plans and Assessments.

Prior to joining BWXT at the NFS facility, Mr. McKinnon was the Strategic Weapons Facility Program manager, Atlantic, at VT Griffin Services, Inc. in Kings Bay, GA, that operated the Base Operating Support Contracts.

In 1981, Mr. McKinnon began his career in the United States Navy. He graduated from the Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. His distinguished career of 26 years included serving as commanding officer of the USS KENTUCKY (SSBN 737) as the installation commanding officer for the Naval Submarine Base in Kings Bay, GA, where he received the 2007 Commander-in-Chief’s Installation Excellence Award.

Mr. McKinnon earned his Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/MIT Sloan School of Management in 2007.
