Community Outreach

NFS is committed to open and forthright communications with our community and other interested stakeholders.

NFS and its employees are involved in their communities through the NFS Speakers Bureau and other area volunteer activities like the annual Unicoi Apple Festival and Umoja Festival. The Speakers Bureau is a team of employees from all areas of the site who provide hands-on activities and information at schools and universities, and also speak about NFS at local civic group meetings. Most presentations focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to encourage students to pursue careers in these growing disciplines. For more information about the NFS Speakers Bureau, contact Laura Bailey, NFS Communications Manager, at (423)735-5494.

In early 2017, NFS pledged $100,000 to Milligan College’s new engineering program. The funds will be equally distributed over a five-year span.  The first $20,000 check was delivered at that time.  Milligan College dedicated an engineering lab to NFS for the continuing financial and advisory support. Joel Duling, NFS president, center in the photo, believes the company is investing in Milligan College and in NFS.  “Our hope is that one day, some of the students who learn in the NFS Engineering Lab will work at NFS,” Duling said.
