Temporary Storage & Treatment - More Information

Successful environmental and resource recovery projects include:

  • Development of a process to treat mixed waste containing mercury to produce a non-hazardous radiological waste.
  • Development of processes to treat mixed waste from settling pond sediment containing perchloroethylene and cadmium to produce non-hazardous radiological waste.
  • Testing of a waste solidification process using Portland cement and pozzolans.
  • Treatability studies on RCRA mixed wastes
  • Development of a process to recover uranium from process residues (currently being used to recover more than 85 percent of the contained uranium).
  • Perform tests on off-spec uranium materials to determine whether they can be converted to uranium hexaflouride (UF6) for enrichment to commercial reactor-grade quality or use as blend stock with HEU for LEU fuel.
