Site Partnerships - More Information In today's highly regulated environment, siting, permitting and constructing a nuclear facility in the U.S. can take years and millions of dollars. That's why more companies are turning their attention toward NFS. With more than 50 acres of land available for development or co-development, NFS is the smart alternative to "green field" development. In many cases, companies can operate utilizing NFS' permitted authorizations. If you would like to review NFS' existing regulatory permits, click here. In addition to the reduced time necessary to site and permit a nuclear facility, locating a plant adjacent to NFS enables a company to potentially reduce its operating costs. NFS maintains a cadre of health and safety, nuclear criticality, process engineers, environmental, security and regulatory, experts who can be contracted on an "as needed" basis. Similarly, NFS has facilities dedicated for nuclear plant operation, such as: waste water treatment facility, analytical laboratories, research and development facilities, non-destructive assay equipment, remediation processes, rail siding and storage facilities. Studsvik AB was the first to discover that NFS was the perfect home for planting its Swedish flag in America. The leading nuclear company in Sweden, Studsvik wanted to share it's new technology for treating certain wastes with utility companies operating nuclear reactors to generate electrical power. The Studsvik's THOR® System is an advanced thermal process designed for weight and volume reduction of radioactively-contaminated ion-exchange resins. The process is based on the pyrolysis of organic components within the resins and results in a concentrated end product. The end product is about one-thirtieth the weight of the original resins, is environmentally non-reactive, and meets all regulatory requirements for permanent disposal. The process has been proven to be safe and effective through Studsvik's extensive research, development and large-scale testing program. The Studsvik Processing Facility was inaugurated in 1998 and became fully operational in 1999. Today, Studsvik is serving utility and other nuclear customers nationwide - safely and efficiently. If you would like to learn more about the possibilities of locating your nuclear operation at NFS, please contact Frank Hahne, NFS Vice-President of New Business Development at (423) 743-1789, or just click here. |
