NFS Services
Specialty Fuel
NFS is clearly a leader in the process development and production of specialty
nuclear fuels. Since 1957, the company has successfully delivered a variety
of nuclear materials for commercial power, research reactors, naval reactors
and even supplemental materials for the aerospace and pottery industries.
Waste
Management
NFS has aggressive solutions for the challenges of materials and waste
management. NFS has shipped more than one hundred million pounds of radioactive
and waste materials over the past decade. Responsible for the shipment
of wastes from one of the nation's largest environmental remediation projects
as a member of the Fernald Environmental Management Project (FEMP) in
Ohio, to its own cutting edge waste remediation projects NFS is expert
at planning, packaging and transportation.
From site remediation and decontamination
and decommissioning, to innovative treatment technologies that
can drastically reduce overall costs, NFS is the smart alternative
for waste management. Here are a few of the services offered:
Decontamination
& Decommissioning
The company was one of the first private companies in the U.S.
to successfully decontaminate and decommission (D&D) a plutonium
facility. Emerging from the experience was a revolutionary Decontamination
and Volume Reduction Facility (DVRF) that has helped numerous
DOE facilities expedite high-risk D&D projects. Today, an
NFS-designed DVRF is helping Los
Alamos National Laboratory and other DOE site D&D
old plutonium facilities safely and efficiently.
Packaging
& Shipping
NFS offers a fleet of Super Tiger (Type B Model 6400) shipping
containers. Super Tigers are NRC-approved and ideal for the shipment
of relatively small quantities of plutonium-contaminated equipment
to temporary storage or permanent disposal facilities. NFS can
arrange transportation, material handling or employee training
for clients interested in rental or lease of the Super Tigers.
The company was also instrumental in the development of a revolutionary
new non-destructive assay (NDA) system for fast, efficient and
accurate radiological analysis of entire intermodal containers.
Site
Remediation
NFS has been at the forefront of developing new alternatives for
cost-effective site remediation. The company's leadership in remediating
some of the nation's most challenging projects (for example as
a team member at the Fernald Environmental Management Project
in Ohio) offers a competitive advantage to any entity facing high-cost
clean-up. NFS has helped several universities remediate radioactively-contaminated
burial grounds. The company has also remediated its own ponds
and burial grounds - developing new knowledge and technologies
available today to customers everywhere.
Technology
Development
The company continues to identify treatment solutions for off-specification
and waste materials. Ranging from proprietary non-thermal extraction,
stabilization and waste minimization technologies to identification of
new methods to lower the cost of storage or disposal of materials. NFS
has successfully applied new technologies to pilot and full-scale processes
that today are at work for its customers. NFS has helped save millions
of dollars for its customers.
M&I
Support
NFS' unique expertise in a variety of nuclear-related fields makes it
the ideal partner for any M&I project. A team member of the award-winning
Fernald Environmental Management Project in Ohio, NFS has been instrumental
in setting records health and safety accomplishments, from five-million
person hours of no lost-time injuries, to accelerated remediation and
waste shipments.
When your challenge calls for alternatives
that are smarter and more cost-effective than the norm, NFS is
the smart alternative.
