M & I Support - More Information As management partner within the Fluor Fernald team, NFS responsibilities currently include nuclear materials management, radiological control and implementation, radiological engineering and regulatory compliance, RI/FS, risk assessment, removal actions and site-wide remediation. NFS has provided innovative approaches to sludge stabilization, metals removal from soils, D&D, waste reduction, cost-effective containment, safe-shutdown, enhanced groundwater recovery and efficient waste characterization. In 1996, the Fernald team shipped a record 600,000 cubic feet of Ohio waste to the Nevada Test Site - saving taxpayers more than $2 million. In fact, the Fluor Fernald has performed so well during its initial contract, the DOE recently awarded the team a new 10-year contract through the final clean up of the project. Although the contract target date for site completion is December 31, 2010, the new contract offers incentives to Fluor Fernald to complete the closure of the site by 2006. NFS can provide a cadre of industry veterans and
cost-effective solutions to support almost any M&I challenge. For
example, NFS Vice-President Dr. Don Paine who has been at the forefront
of the Fernald achievements has been given overall responsibility for
Nuclear Materials Management at the project to achieve the site's aggressive
closure goal. |
