LEU - More Information
NFS has a long history of specialty nuclear fuel
production. Take a look:
- More than 15 years of production of uranium metal
from uranium hexafluoride (UF6) via UF6 to UF4 direct hydrogen conversion
and reduction of UF4 to metal using calcium or magnesium metal. Processed
depleted, natural, LEU and HEU (93%) uranium.
- 10 years of melting/casting uranium metal
- both solid U and as alloy (molybdenum, for example) blocks or simple
shapes.
- Three years of production
of HEU (20% - 93%) uranium metal via UF6 to UF4 direct organic conversion
(direct green) and subsequent reduction to the metal.
- More than 37 years of
production of oxides of uranium from UF6 via the ADU process. NFS also
produced tonnage quantities of LE oxide from UF6 via the ADU process.
- NFS obtained the initial
patent for downblending of HEU to LEU and installed the system that
has downblended HEU into tonnage quantities of LEU.
- More than 35 years of HEU and LEU scrap
recovery experience from all types of scrap (metal, oxides, ash, trash,
carbon matrices, zinc, etc.), producing tonnage quantities of purified
uranium product.
