NFS perfected and patented a process to convert HEU into LEU for use in commercial power reactors. This important advancement has created a smart alternative to the costly storage or disposal of Cold War stockpiles of weapons-grade uranium. The new "downblending" process blends HEU with quantities of natural and depleted uranium to produce high-quality LEU with enrichments from four to more than 10 percent.

Combined with it's capabilities to purify some "off-spec" LEU materials into feedstock for the downblending process, NFS can offer certain nuclear clean-up projects an opportunity to disposition materials once thought to be a waste into something of value. The ability to convert surplus HEU into useful commercial power reactor fuel is true recycling of a valuable natural resource. In today's world of increased electrical power demand and reduced production capability, NFS can play a role in powering America's future electrical needs.
